  Prologue

  Justice

Paige and Hound's deaths had put things into perspective. People would always quote that 'life was too short', but it wasn't until those tragic events that I truly believed the saying.

Since that night, I had spent many evenings reminiscing with Maggie and the guys. I had also taken my anger out on many knobheads, even if they didn't deserve it because I just needed to vent my frustrations.

Hound and I had been friends for well over twenty-five years. He was a good friend, club brother but most importantly, I classed him as family. I would have given my life for his in a heartbeat.

I had watched his family grow over the years, Tyler, Jayden, Paige and Chloe were all fantastic in their own rights but it was the fiery attitude of Paige that made her stand out from her siblings.

She had the ability to brighten up a room with her beautiful smile and as a young child, she would show so much affection and joy but Paige's wicked sense of humour heavily laced with sarcasm had made many people laugh and unfortunately, it had also made them cry. Her hatred towards the world because of the abuse she had endured, had eaten her up inside and she became spiteful even to the people she loved. Despite all this, I was privileged to see some of her warm inner qualities that so few got to see.

It was Paige's death that had spurred me on, in taking the first steps to try to make contact with my children. Many obstacles were put in my way over the years to prevent me from seeing my children but with their happiness in mind, it was easier to walk away than drag them through the courts as I had with my two eldest boys.

No man should ever have to fight to see their children, it should be a god given right but I hadn't chosen wisely when it came to picking women to have relationships with.

Although access was made difficult, I never shirked my responsibilities financially. Regular payments were made to the three that were still in education and the four that I couldn't find, money was set aside in bank accounts ready for the day that I was reunited with them.

I let out a long sigh as I sat writing the list, trying to work out the children's last known whereabouts and how I was going to make contact.

I was interrupted when my phone rang, I picked it up from the table and pressed accept.

"Have you got any news?" I asked hastily.

  "Yep, we've tracked down Shaydon."

My heart thumped hard inside my chest, "Thank you CJ, I owe you one." Resting my elbow on the table, I slowly massaged my forehead and let out a huge sigh of relief.

"Not a problem mate, I'll message all the info over to you shortly." He ended the call and I sat staring at the list.

I felt like I now had a purpose. I knew that I had been a shit dad over the years because I hadn't been around to support and nurture but that was all about to change. I was going to make contact with all of my children even if it was the last thing I did.

  Chapter 1

  Trudy

I let out a deep breath before entering the building and stood in the grand reception area in awe of its size and stature. I glanced around the space and noticed the artwork hung brightly on the plain walls and there was an array of sculptures and photographs positioned around the building.

Although London was only a twenty minute train journey on the Stansted Express, I didn't visit the City much because of the hustle and bustle but today was different, I had a purpose.

The receptionist caught my eye and immediately put me at ease with her welcoming smile.

"Can I help you?" she asked politely.

I stepped closer to her desk and handed her my appointment card, "I have a meeting with JP photography at 11.00am."

The receptionist nodded as she glanced at her computer screen and tapped away at the keyboard.

"It's one of the pop up companies renting space in studio 4A, just down the corridor and to your right." She pointed in the direction that I should take and handed the glossy business card back to me.

"Thank you," I stated hurling my huge rucksack over my shoulder.

"You're welcome." The receptionist smiled before focussing her attention on the next customer in the queue.

I hobbled up the corridor passing various rooms containing all manner of businesses and turned right at the end as directed by the receptionist.

The corridor opened up into a larger area and banners displayed some of the photographs that I had seen on the company's website. These very photographs had helped me to make the decision to book an appointment because they were able to show before and after shots. The woman looked so glamorous and I wanted to look that beautiful, if only for an hour.

I placed my rucksack onto the floor as it was digging into my shoulder. The lady that had contacted me after my initial inquiry had explained that I would need to bring a variety of outfits that would help me to achieve my goal. This was difficult because my goal was to look sexy in the photographs and after twelve years of marriage and two children, my wardrobe had become very practical for the job I had and the role as a mother and wife. My underwear selections had gone from frills and lace to plain white cotton knickers that could be pulled up high to contain my ever growing tummy.

I sighed at the thought, no wonder my husband wasn't paying me any attention lately.

"Good morning, you must be Trudy." I was pulled from my thoughts as a bright young lady approached me holding out her hand.

"Jackie?" I asked, assuming she was the woman that I had spoken to on the phone.

"It certainly is, please take a seat." She grabbed a clipboard from the coffee table and sat comfortably on the bucket chair foldi
ng her legs and curling her foot just behind her ankle.

Jackie oozed confidence and looked very attractive with her perfect makeup and figure hugging outfit that I started to feel even more insecure.

I dragged the rucksack towards the seating area and plonked myself in the seat directly opposite her.

"I see that you've brought a few things with you," she stated nodding towards my bag.

I smiled, "I really didn't know what to bring so I brought lots and thought that you could help me decide." It had been so long that I had forgotten what it was like to be sexy and attractive.

"Not a problem, remember what I said on the phone, we will take our time and do this slowly so that you feel comfortable."

I slowly nodded and adjusted the bottom of my blouse as I tried my best to remain focussed. I suffered from anxiety and found it difficult to be around new people and situations but I knew that I needed to do this in order to inject a spark into my marriage.

"I also took the liberty of bringing some outfits to the studio this morning so you may want to give some of them a try during your photo shoot but like I said, no pressure, you've gotta do what makes you feel comfortable."

Her kind words made me feel a little better about the situation but I needed to take a few deep breaths to keep control of my breathing.

"So can I just confirm a couple of details?" Jackie took the clipboard from her lap and held it out for me to take.

I reached out to take it and quickly glanced over the information on the printed sheet.

Name, address, contact telephone number, and email all the usual information. As I scanned further, I noticed that they wanted an emergency contact phone number and employment details.

"Why do you need these?" I asked pointing to the questions.

"It's just precautionary, say you felt unwell here today and needed me to call someone."

"And my employment details?" I was a little confused as to why they would need these.

Jackie smiled, "That's for marketing purposes, we just want to know who we may need to target in the future."

Silly me, I felt stupid for asking such daft questions and quickly filled the form using the pen she had provided. When completed, I handed Jackie the clipboard and nervously brought my hands together.

She scanned the information before looking at me with a bright smile, "Okay then Trudy, let's get you into your first outfit and then I'll introduce you to the photographer."

Although I was still nervous, a rush of excitement ran through me. These photos were for Charlie, my plan was for him to realise just how beautiful I was and hopefully this would get our marriage back on track. I loved him with every beat of my heart but work and his other commitments often kept him from coming home and I only hoped that he still loved me as much as I loved him.

I stood and collected my rucksack from the floor.

"The changing rooms are over there," Jackie pointed to an area in the corner with a seat and a long mirror.

"Just pull the curtain around to give yourself some privacy."

I nodded and quickly made my way over to the area because I didn't want to keep them waiting for too long.

I hurled the rucksack onto the chair and bent down to unzip it to reveal the many outfits that I had packed. I stuffed my hands either side of the pile and slowly brought them out trying not to crease the clothing further.

I was going to wear a simple red dress to start with. Charlie had commented a while ago that the colour suited me and I smiled at the thought. I leaned over the chair, grabbed the corner of the curtain and pulled it around the area to get changed into the outfit.

"How you doing in there?" Jackie asked from the other side of the curtain.

"I won't be long," I replied pulling my t-shirt up over my head.

"Can I get you a drink?"

"That would be lovely," I didn't have time for breakfast this morning, not even a cup of tea so I was gasping for a drink.

"Tea, coffee or something a little stronger?" Jackie asked with a giggle. "I've got some lovely Prosecco that we could open, a sort of celebration knowing that your husband is going to love these hot photographs."

I rolled my eyes, how could I possibly look hot. I was just me, plain, fat and unattractive. I was just kidding myself that they were able to work wonders to make me attractive. I let out a loud sigh as I pulled the dress over my head and put my arms through the sleeves before shimmying into the material.

"Trudy, tea, coffee or Prosecco?" Jackie asked again.

I stood in front of the mirror looking at my hideous reflection, "Prosecco, why not!"

  "Wow you look lovely."

I pulled back the curtain and stepped from the dressing area as the photographer made his way into the room.

I felt my cheeks immediately blush at his comment and tucked my hair behind my ear, trying to pretend that I wasn't flattered.

"That colour really suits you," he stated stepping forward with his arm extended.

"I'm Jasper, your photographer for today."

I shook his hand and smiled politely although I knew that he would see my flushed skin at the close proximity.

"Pop yourself in one of those seats there and Jackie will work her magic by doing your hair and makeup while I finish setting up the equipment." Jasper turned on his heels and made his way to the far end of the room.

I watched as he adjusted his tripod and glanced at the screen on the back of his camera.

  "Here you go lovely."

I turned to face Jackie and noticed that she had swivelled a chair around encouraging me to sit. It was positioned in front of a mirror with makeup and hair products scattered around and it looked like I was getting the full works this morning.

"This is great, you seem to have everything." I stated sliding into the chair.

"We aim to please, now sit forward a minute." I scooted towards the edge of the chair as Jackie brought an apron around the front of me and fastened it around my neck.

"We don't want to get that pretty dress covered in makeup do we?"

I shook my head and shimmied back so that I was sitting upright in the chair.

"Right, are you happy to give me a free rein to work my magic?"

  "Of course, please go ahead."

  Jackie smiled, "Excellent."

Jackie beavered away using products that I didn't even know were available. I kept quiet knowing that this would speed up the process plus I didn't want to distract her from what she was trying to achieve.

"Wow, you're a complete knock out." Jackie removed the apron from around my shoulders and smiled as I stood from the chair.

I lightly touched my hair as I looked in the mirror and was amazed because the lady staring back didn't look like me because she was hot.

I heard the whistle and swirled around to see Jasper staring in my direction.

"Oh honey you look a million dollars, now come over here and let me take some photos."

I picked up my glass of wine and casually walked towards the set that Jasper had arranged. I took a quick sip to steady my nerves and placed the glass onto the table before stepping onto the soft carpeted area.

"We're going to start with some simple head shots until you're familiar with the camera and the lighting."

Jackie guided me further in front of the backing material and arranged my hair before moving out of the way.

"Beautiful, now we want to keep these very natural Trudy. Don't pull any facial expressions that you wouldn't usually and I'm just going to shoot as they come."

"Okay." I stood naturally and was surprised that I felt rather relaxed although this was totally out of my comfort zone. Jasper and Jackie had made me feel truly comfortable and I was pleased with all the things that I had overcome by just being here.

"Turn to the side, that's it and look over your shoulder. Beautiful, that's it well done you're a natural."

I followed his clear instruction easily.

"Okay let's stop there, get a quick dri
nk and I'll get the chair ready."

I walked from the carpeted area and grabbed my glass from the table.

"See it's not that bad," Jackie stated joining my side.

I took a large gulp of the wine and made a slurping sound, we both giggled at the noise.

"Sorry, I'm just so hot after being under those lights."

"Yeah it can be quite hot and you've got a long session ahead. Do you want me to get you a cold drink, maybe a coke or lemonade?"

I nodded, "Yes please that would be great."

Jackie smiled before turning on her heels and heading in the direction of the kitchenette.

"Okay are you ready Trudy?" Jasper asked from behind the camera.

"Yep," I replied making my way towards the large chair he had just positioned.

"Sit with your legs crossed to start with and we'll take it from there."

I adjusted myself on the chair and positioned myself like he had asked.

"Beautiful, now flick your hair, yes exactly like that, keep going and let me take shots like this. Now curl your legs to the side of you."

It was a little difficult in a dress but I did as I was told hoping that he would like what he saw through the lens.

I noticed Jackie place my drink onto the table but I didn't have time to thank her because Jasper was shouting out his next set of instructions.

"Get on your knees and rest your elbows on the arm of the chair. That's it cup your hands around your face, lovely keep going and now lean back on your elbows on the other side so I can see your whole face. Beautiful, well done Trudy these are looking great."

I tried to keep it natural as he had asked and I was finding this all relatively easy although quick paced.

"Right it's time for an outfit change. Have you got anything with buttons or a zip?" Jasper asked directing his hand to the front of his chest to indicate what he wanted.

"Erm yeah I think I have." I had brought a variety of different outfits but I was sure that I had a black shirt dress that had buttons that ran all the way down the front.

I grabbed my drink from the table and took a big swig before rushing to the changing area.
